Hi all

My old reliable 824e won't ignite. I had a similar problem around Christmas and at the time, while awaiting receipt of a new gas valve, I dismantled the current one, cleaned it, tried it again and it worked fine.

However, the system has now stopped again. I have now swapped out the gas valve but still no joy. I can hear the ignition clicking away.

Any suggestions anyone please ?

If its clicking then your almost there, I dont want to say to much as this is not the gas forum, but make sure the gas is on and its getting to the boiler!

good luck

I went outside and tried to smell gas coming out with the air through the flue when the fan starts up but couldn't smell anything.

Since it's a combi, it will obviously try and fire when the Hot tap is turned on which my wife just did and hey presto, it suddenly burst to life again. She then just tried the heating too with a 1hr boost and that's fine too.

So I'm totally confused. Are there any voltages I can check with a multimeter the next time is decides not to budge ? there are two red wires going to the top of the blue cap on the gas valve (Sigma 845 I think) which I assume is some sort of relay ???

Anything to do with gas or combustion needs a gas registered engineer.

For obvious reasons we do not give advice on DIY gas work.

Is this forum for oil fired boilers only ? I thought it was for all boiler breakdowns.
