Vaillant 831 plus plate heat exchanger replacement - how to?

Have a vaillant ecotec plus 831

Could someone right up a quick how to.

E.g.:
>turn off cold water
> turn off boiler
> run hot water taps
........

Presumably you are doing this because of scale issues?

Be simpler and cheaper to hire a Kamco unit and run some descaler through.

That way, you can replace the room sealed cover before anyone on here notices you have removed it and work from outside the case.

Yea just lime scale build up


Hopefully not I just wanted to confirm

- turn power off
- turn off incoming water
- run hot water taps till dry
- drain off primaries
- remove 4 screw / exchanger
- replace with new exchanger with new washers and a bit of silicone grease

@Hazee unless you're Gas Safe Registered you shouldn't be taking the cover off your boiler - it creates the room seal that is there for your safety

If that is really the case then why has he not been engaged to swap the plate for you?

As above , hope ur safety is not important to you, and anyway these are not prone to scale ur wasting your time thats not the realistically not the problem

I have zero love lost for these boilers, but..... The plate on these is as equally unlikely to scale up as it is easy to remove.

Hazee, I'm afraid you won't get any help here when it comes to DIY work inside a sealed boilers combustion space, it's the forums rules. No-one that isn't gas safe registered should really be inside that space. It's really for your own safety.

Get your GSR in and let him diagnose and rectify whatever issue it is you are seeing, once fixed he can then ensure that the boiler is sealed back up properly by his standard checks and tests.
