The control has clock, sun and moon logos so I presume the clock is used to set the CH to the panel's clock which has push in timer segments.
Can anyone tell me what the sun and moon settings are for and how would I turn on the CH manually?
Can this boiler be used with an external timer?
There's an external thermostat.

Yes the clock position is the timer, the moon is manually constant off and the sun is manually constantly on.

set to position of the sun and make sure your thermostat is set high enough
Can this boiler be used with an external timer?
Yes, with some alteration, such as wiring et al.

Thanks CBW!

To me, 0 and 1 markings would have made more sense than a moon and sun.

Can you recommend any external timer for the boiler please?

I'd be happy with the timer on the boiler if it could be set differently for Mon - Fri and weekend but its easy enough to switch CH on manually.

You could set the boiler to constant and have a programmable thermostat.
Different temps at different times on different days.
What sort of stat do you have now?

I had a Salus doing this. Mon-Fri schedule and a Sat-Sun schedule. I think you can programme for every day if required.
Have just replaced with Wiser.

I would imagine that your boiler timer will have a wire to the thermostat. If the temp is below set point it will switch this wire back to the boiler to fire it.

I am DIY but do work with electrics/electronics in my day job.

I have a Honeywell room thermostat. I'll give it some thought about CH timing.
