Hello all, I have a neighbour who has been having issues with her central heating/ boiler.

It's over pressurising the central heating system even when not in use.

I was round on Saturday night after work as she has been bleeding the pressure off via the bleed screws but this time it had spat it out and there was water everywhere!.

Tonight was the same story but a different radiator.

The boiler is in a bad way really, is there any way of turning the central heating side off?.

Presumably it has an internal fill loop that's letting water by?.

She's skint so trying to get by for a couple of months before having it looked at.

Any comments appreciated. Cheers, Keith.

It sounds as though the filling loop valves aren't shutting off properly. It'll be a braided loop between the CH return pipe, and the cold water mains.

Cheers, I've looked all over it and can't find a filling loop (must be there somewhere though!).

The filling loop is made up of the two valves circled in red. Often a bit knackered though, so may need replacing

Are they screwed in to close?, I think they are knackered as the screws seemed fully closed when I had a look.

As you say if they're knackered it needs some money spending on it, or a new boiler..

It's a Turbomax Plus. From the photo, it looks like the left hand valve circled by Muggles is in the off position. Can't really see the right hand one. Off on these valves is when the slot for screw driver is front to back - if the slot is left to right, they're on. They only turn 1/4 turn. Common to see one of the screws seized on, but should still seal with one working. Could be the valves passing, or maybe another reason for pressure rising.

Best boiler ever made by Vaillant. Simple to fix and parts quite affordable.Loads for them cheaply on Ebay. If all else works on it, may be worth getting it fixed. Though this example looks like it's had a hard life, and hasn't had anyone looking under the bonnet for quite a while.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I'll check they are both front to back and if they are then I can't go any further with it.

I've given her the number of our plumber/ boiler man who's a nice bloke but reading between the lines she's got no spare cash to have it fixed.

Not good really, single mum of two with a full time job. Feel sorry for here really.

If it were mine I'd have plumber round sharpish but there two wages coming into our house..

All you can really do for now is just make sure the valves are turned off properly. They can be a bit stiff. Make sure the slots are turned as far as they will go, but careful not to use excessive force or damage the slot.

Thankfully she took my advice and rang our plumber up!.

He came out yesterday and got it back up and useable in half an hour, ordered a couple of small parts to fit next week.

Pressure's stable at 1 bar now and no leaks.

Nice being able recommend someone you can trust and have a good outcome!.
