We are experiencing a number of water outages here in Kent, at the moment my area is ok although we do have a pumping station down but water is still getting thru. Question, im 71yrs old and worry if i do have a water outage will my central heating still work?? Will i still get hot water?? Given its not a combi boiler im guessing CH will be ok, hot water not so?? Thanks for your time guys.

Central heating will be okay, hot water depends on whether you have a cold water storage tank that will give you hot water until the tank runs dry. I’d be without hot water as although I don’t have a combi, I have an unvented hot water system which relies on mains water coming into the house.
Yes, i have a large cold water tank in loft, so if i get your post right hot water will last till tank runs out? I assume boiler will shut down when it has no water to heat? Will CH still operate though or will boiler stop altogether?

You should always have water in your hot water cylinder as when the cold water tank empties, there will be no more water to push the hot water through the system. Your boiler should keep that at whatever temperature you have it set to although you won’t be able to push it through to your taps. If you are concerned, you could always turn off the hot water side of your boiler when the loft tank empties.
Yes, that is a separate system with its own circuit that will not empty unless you drain it or have a leak.
You Sir have put an old Mans mind at rest, if push comes to shove and water is cut off i will shut down hot water and just keep the CH running. Once again, thankyou so much.
