Evening all. I have a boiler of the above type. Last week I came back from a trip away to find it wasn't working. I called out an engineer who came at around 8pm and was obviously keen to finish the job and go home. He got the boiler working again but didn't really explain what he had done, why it had malfunctioned and what could be done to stop it from happening again. He just said "if it isn't a leak it must be condensation." He did something to the thermostat, and now the flame icon which shows that the boiler has ignited never appears, also you can't set the thermostat above a certain level (22) when with the current really cold winter it needs to be higher. Mercifully I've still got hot water, but there's no heat coming out of the actual radiators. I wonder if this might be connected to the green light on a wall box beside the boiler, which is usually on but has now gone out. You can turn it on again but it goes off before long. Unfortunately the engineers say they're unable to come before the 29th; meanwhile I have to have an electric heater on all the time, which is expensive. The flat is not really healthy to live in. Is there any way I could fix the trouble myself? I'm told you can bleed the radiators (each one individually?) with a key but I'm not sure how exactly this is done or what sort of key is required.
