Vaillant Home System 15 - F.28 Intermittent fault even after many parts have been replaced

Only if one of those parts was faulty. If those parts were ok then I'd expect the boiler to run the same as it did before.

Have they ever carried out a full strip service of the unit? Taking the burner housing off and washing through the heat exchanger?
No, and to be fair that’s the last thing the BG engineer mentioned it can be if it locks out again which I suspect it will soon.

It’s not part of the BG service so I will need to get someone in to conduct that strip service and give a clean.

So the service doesn't actually include a service, sounds about right.

The thing is with pretty much any boiler, but specifically in your case, that boiler should ignite first try every time, they don't need to wait weeks for it to lock out, its not fixed until it lights every time, yes it could still lockout with an intermittent issue after a while but not lighting first time is a clear sign its not fixed.

if your car took 3 goes to start it every time, youd know something was wrong, and if they replaced the spark plugs and it still took 3 goes to start it, you'd be pretty confident its not fixed, if the garage said wait until the day it won't start at all before phoning us back, youd be questioning if they know what thier doing.

The reason I asked about service is that its a down firing burner in an aluminium heat exchanger, they will naturally build up deposits in the hex which affects airflow/combustion and easily lead to issues like that. Electrode I can forgive, common thing that can cause intermitant ignition, ingitor module, yep, they could be flakey, main PCB theres not a chance it would be that in reality, and the gas valves in these are virtually bomb proof, but the most common and likley issue has been over looked which is a lack of basic maintainence.

Thats a great analogy with the car which makes perfect logical sense, I mentioned this to the BG engineers upon their visits, but of course they are following F.28 diagnosis as per their documentation and experience.

I shall reach out to BG and see if I can get an engineer over to clean out the main heater exchanger or at least inspect it as above.

Thank you for all your help and guidance on this issue and hopefully I can get it resolved soon.
