Thanks all for your help on this one, Was getting real grief from the other half so went ahead and got a new plate.

Just had the first shower, like having a new boiler fitted.

Well now you have plenty of time to play with the old one just get the hydrochloric acid and apply it to the hot water side of the old plate HE and watch it bubble! Thats the limescale being dissolved in the acid.

You will then have a spare one ready for next time.

While you are about it why not replace the washer on that leaking hot tap?

I wondered just who would comment on that when I wrote it ! But I did not think that it was significantly incorrect.

OK, its carbon dioxide being released from calcium carbonate as the acid combines with the calcium to form calcium chloride.

In simple language is that not still the acid disolving the carbonate?
