I have purchased a new central heating pump to replace my old broken Myson.
I was going to do it myself because it looked quite an easy job.
It is hard to get acces to the Valve nuts due to it being in the confined airing cupboard space and with pipes in the way everwhre.

I managed to get a pair of small stilsons on the nuts but they will nut budge!!

Any advise anyone please

wd40 as said or cut the nuts off.
full drain down only if the valve isolations won't work.
otherwise just change the two nuts.

HI Seco,

Even if the isoltion valve works how do you cut the one above the pump w ithout it pouring out if you have not drained it??
Not questioning you but thought you would need to empty the CH or anything above the pump would pour out?

Turn off Both valves.
If they have screwdriver slots, then don't bother just drain down as 95% chance they will leak.
Use a junior hacksaw to cut the large nuts. Then insert a screwdriver into the cut to split it.

Won't cutting the nuts damage the threads on the valves?

Also, how would you get the new nuts on?

he's saying he can't undo the pump nuts.
so if you isolate the valves you can cut the nuts and release the pump.

its been a while since i changed a pump nut, but when you remember what it entails the longest thing about changing a pump is getting the bloody nuts on.
