Varistor

I have to replace some keypads for maglocks and each has been supplied with a Mov stating to fit in the lock.
The locks etc are 12volt Dc and from what i read Varistors can be used on Ac or Dc.
However are Varistors polarised or can they be fitted either way round when used on Dc circuits, my first instinct is that it does not matter.

Not polarised. Doesn't matter which way they are connected.

Either way works fine. There is no polarity anyway for ac.
