varnishing/staining MDF

Hi All

ive got to varnish some wardrobes which are made out of mdf, has anyone had any experience with this as i need it to have a teak finish? thx

Tricky and I wouldnt attempt to do it with a brush...id say use a short pile hard foam roller.

Thin the first coat out to it sinks in to the surface and rub down very very lightly with fine grade abrasive paper between coats

You may get away with two coats..robably three though

i wondered how the colour would come out, as its not the same as natural wood?

do you mean your after a coloured finnish!!!

without a grain it wont look like wood

even a pine with teak varnish looks carp so a bit off cardboard wont look to impresive

Any varnish or stain will enhance the look of natural wood, but how do you enhance the look of MDF.
