Varnishing Wooden Floors

Hi,

I sanded our wooden floors to a nice smooth finish and have now put on a first coat of varnish. Disappointingly the floor now feels quite rough. Is this just normal, or did I put too much on, or could there have been a bit of dust about still? Presumably I need to sand this down, should I just do this by hand? I'm starting to feel that varnishing is going to be a bigger job than the sanding!

yes gentle sanding between coats then remove the dust

Yes, otherwise you'll remove too much of the varnish rather than just de-nibbing it.
