I have a 1.6 Vauxhall Astra automatic in which I had valves cleaned a month ago as the car would conk out before it slowed down to a halt. Now I've got the same problem again and it's going to cost over £250 to have them replaced, which I can ill afford right now.

Can someone tell me where these valves are located and how they can they be cleaned?

egr valve sounds very possible for this symptom, on an astra. seems a tad overpriced considering the trade price on the valve from a main dealer is around 36 quid and takes only 10 mins to fit.

Sounds more like the icv valve is sticking. The idle speed control valve is what stops your engine from stalling when coming to a stop. Find it and clean it out with carb cleaner, it would most likely sort out your problems.
