About 6 months ago my van would start for 3 seconds then cut out. Got my spare key and it worked. So it was the micro chip and responder if that's what it's called..... Anyway happened on my spare key the other day. Wouldn't work for about half hour. I had been working in a dusty environment, on the off chance I cleaned the metal part of the key with wire wool and it worked first time........ Is that just pure fluke or does there have to be good connection on the metal ?

I have to think that this is just a coincidence really.....the key has a transponder chip inside it, and a transmitter device on the ignition switch communicates with the key. The key and switch need to be very close though but I've never heard of metallic connection being needed.
Unless anyone knows better, of course!
John :)

Well that's what I would have thought but that is what happened.
Am I going to have an ongoing problem do you think?
