I have a Combo van with a 1200 engine. I really need to pull a trailer on the odd occasion, with sand or rubble up to 2 Tonnes.

Will my van manage it? Is it legal even?

Many thanks

The handbook will tell you the maximum you can tow. Probably in the "Tech data" section. It will give you a maximum unbraked trailer weight (probably between 500 and 750kg) and a maximum braked trailer weight (which is unlikely to be 2 tonnes for such a small vehicle - maybe 1500kg). You can get a very rough idea if you can find the chassis plate with the VIN on it (a 17 character number identifying the vehicle). It's usually under the bonnet somewhere or maybe on one of the door pillars. That will have 4 weights listed in order. the first is the maximum that the vehicle can weigh. The second is the maximum that the vehicle and trailer combined can weigh. The trouble is, it then depends on how much stuff is in your vehicle as to what you can tow.
