Hi I’m going to be installing a velux into my loft in the next month, it’s been sat in my living room for 6 months lol anyway I know I have to double up my rafters either side … do these need to go all the way to the wall plate or just so far?

I’m going to really struggle taking them to the wall plate without removing the first couple of rows of tiles to thread them through

How many rafters are you planning to remove? If it's just one, you might get away with bolting sisters to the rafters on either side, especially if the lengths of timber used as sisters span purlins. You're goal is zero flex.

hi thanks for your reply’s , it was built around 1930’s, I think I’ll have to cut two rafters and our loft looks pretty much like this ( pitched roof)

I fitted a Velux last year. The scenario was different though. We had scaffolding up for other work, so I was able to slide the rafter sisters in from the outside. I think the temporary removal of some roof tiles is a requisite for this job.
The photo you've uploaded indicates that you've got a substantial purlin in place, so that's a good start.
As always, if you're in any doubt, call in the pros!
