We moved into a House around 2 years ago, and was told that the Boiler downstairs was just vented by the old chap that lived here..

BUT he never told us how to do it ourselves?? I was going to call in a plumber as our central heating is "whistling" now everytime it comes on?

I know the old chap that lived here did mention some weird thing of venting the boiler whilst running the upstairs cold tap (?) or flushing the toilet?? at the same time?

All Radiators are hot downstairs, and the one in the bathroom and bedroom are hot too - but the end bedroom, one doesnt come on at all, and the other is only slightly luke warm?!

Now i have tried bleeding them as they are prob furthest away in the house but water comes out straight away leaving me to think they they dont need bleeding?

Anyone any ideas on boiler and this cold rad problem? are they linked?

Been trying to find any help on the net, to allow me to step by step do this myself..

(The venting of the boiler couldnt have been that difficult as the chap who lived here was about 124 yrs old!)

Thanks in advance!

Turn all the radiators that are hot, off. Then make sure all the radiators that aren't hot, are on. This may push through an airlock or sludge. :?:

Venting of your boiler should be (automatically) via the vent pipe into the fill and expansion tank in the loft.

if you divulge the make and model of the boiler, and tell us if you have a feed and expansion tank in the loft, that will help a bit.

If you can supply photos of the pipework around the F&E tank, the boiler, the pump and the hot water cylinder, that will help a lot.

When you bleed the radiators, what colour is the water that comes out?

Do you have thermostatic radiator valves on some or all of the rads?

Go to the first few threads in the plumbing section, and read up about Balancing.

Ok will try and get that checked out - the liquid in the rads comes out immediatley and is dark/maybe black if that helps?

black means it contains sediment from corrosion of the radiators. This can sometimes cause a blockage.

However, provided the water is still circulating and no part is blocked yet, it is not difficult to clean out yourself.
