Vent in lounge

Hello,

See image - The house which I have recently bought appears to have a vent/extractor in the lounge - any ideas why this is here? Can I remove it?

you probably have or had a gas fire or back boiler or open fire in your lounge.

If you still have one of these then I would leave it in as it is for ventilation.

If you have none of the above you could get rid. But you may end up with damp. unless you have other means of ventilation. eg window vents etc.

I no longer have a fire or gas fire in the lounge. I will check for other ventilation then remove.

Or leave the fan if you have a flatulent gran - can sit near it
