i'm taking advantage of the free loft insulation being offered at the moment. Currently i have a combination of some fibre glass insulation but mostly i have vermiculite in my loft. I wanted to get rid of the whole lot and have fresh 270mm stuff laid.

I've been reading that getting rid of vermiculite could be hazardous and should really be done by a professional. I don't have the time to sort that out at the moment, so if I can't remove it myself (I've seen that it is not recommended) then is there any harm just laying the new stuff over the top and getting someone in at a later date to remove it for me?

Many thanks

John

No harm what so ever.

Its unlikely that your vermiculite contains asbestos, and it can be tested anyway. But even it it does, if you don't disturb it its not a problem.
