I moved into a new house a few weeks back and have been experiencing vibrating pipes and occasionally a whistling noise.

It started when the main bathroom bath was filled. I dont believe the previous owner ever used it (lived on his own) only ever using the en-suite bathroom.

It seems to come and go. If we dont use that bathroom for a few days the noise disappears. But once its started any tap will cause the vibration.

It mainly happens on the cold feed, although I have heard the hot do it as well. The boiler is a boilermate 2000 (thermal storage).

I've tried turning off the main water supply, running all the taps to empty the system, then restarting the supply. This doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Does this sound like trapped air, or something else?
