Once in a while in our house, there is a vibrating noise that seems to be coming from the stack pipe that lasts about 5 to 10 seconds maximum and happens about two to four times a week . Any ideas how I can fix this problem? There is some new house constructions happening close to our house but the noise can happen even late at night.

Possibly very big rats :)

The options are too numerous to list - can you narrow down what it could be yourself a bit?

Could it be some kind of automatic pump (to keep ditches from filling with water?) connected with the building site?

Is it possible that because of new housing construction nearby that the city sewerage would produce air bubbles that would be manifested as vibrations in those sewer pipes?
