Having steamed off the woodchip and found the usual messy blown lime plaster beneath I was wondering what methods people here preferred with regards to:-

A. Stone walls.

1. Repatch the worst areas with bonding, then skim.
2. Hack all old plaster off and bond and skim.
3. " " " " " " " " " " " " render " " " .
4. Scratch coat stone wall and dot/dab. Then skim. (my spreads preferred method)?

B. Stud walls.

1. Remove all old plaster and bond to lathes and skim.
2. Overboard the lot then skim.
3. Remove plaster, leave lathes, overboard an skim.
4. Remove lathes also, board and skim.

All opinions appreciated.

You will get some stuff about keeping it as near original as possible =letting the building breath etc etc.

Current build regs if followed to the letter mean that if you replaster an external wall you should Insulate it as well.
I like to hack everything off scrach coat then dot dab with thermoline boards or better
any or concerns about damp Rising ???? or penetrating you can use a modified render / sbr etc

Stud walls
If you can overboard and skim the old lath and plaster is a good sound insulator and it saves a load of work if you do remove lath and plaster put some insulation back in for sound proofing and always use 12.5 mm boards
