I am about to move into a 1st floor flat in a converted terrace. I have been told that laminate flooring could be quite noisey and have been considering vinyl wood planks (Karndean) as an alternative. They seem like a good option but I have been quoted £2k to have just my loungeroom and hallway laid! (And my pad is literally slightly larger than a shoebox!)

Has anyone had any experience with vinyl wood plank flooring? And better still, has anyone attempted to lay it themself?

I can buy the amount of flooring and tools I need for £300 and am seriously considering doing it myself!

Does anyone have any pointers / comments?

Thanks in advance

That alternative would be as noisy as laminate. What you need is Wood-Engineered (real wood) flooring with proper sound-insulation. Karndean is glued directly onto your underfloor, not cushioning any footfall noise.

Or carpet, which will be VERY MUCH quiter and will save you from your downstairs neighbour coming up in the night and murdering you.

Good heavens, its almost as if the author wanted us to buy wooden flooring ;)

Well I do know this author has been suffering for years from allergies and eczema but doesn't now, after having had wooden flooring for the last 10 years ;)
