Underlay for Vinyl Planks?

Hello,

Our hall currently has wood floor over wooden floorboards. In winter, the floor is very cold and drafty.

I shall fill around the edges to reduce the draftiness (there's a bit of a gap between the skirting board and bottom step and the floor...).

We want to use vinyl planks as we're reasonably restricted on the height and want to get away from removing the wooden floor.

I was looking to use some "Vitrex Premier Wood & Laminate Underlay Boards" on top of the wood and then fix the vinyl planks on top - this is to reduce the coldness of the floor in winter.

So my questions are:

Are the Vitrex boards suitable? If not, what should I be going for that will give a bit of thermal insulation?
Should I even bother with extra insulation? (I think a lot of the coldness / draftiness is coming from the gaps between the skirting board and bottom step and floor)
How should I go about fixing them to the wood?
How should I go about fixing the vinyl planks to the foam boards?

Any help appreciated...

Steve
