Hi all! Hoping you can give me a few pointers please! I am very DIY-unsavvy, so please bear with me!

We inherited our Flowmatic when we bought our 1st house in April and until now it has been very effective (if noisy). However, it has recently started making a bang when firing up and a squelchy noise for a few minutes when heating or hot water comes on and then yesterday the pilot light kept going out and it is difficult to relight. The pressure is also requiring to be topped up more and more frequently.

What do you think the best course of action is?

Any best guesses on how much the work would be to keep the old girl going for another winter? Or would we be better installing a new boiler despite it meaning we'd need to take out a loan to finance it? We're in Glasgow btw.

Many thanks!

A service would be order of the day. Almost every Flowmatic I see has little or no service carried out (as prescribed in the manual)

This is one boiler that responds well to proper care and attention. Often malfunctions are result of neglect.

Glasgow is Vokera country and Flowmatics were thick on the ground. Well built boiler. Carry most service items for this boiler.

Thanks DP! Would you mind giving me an idea of a reasonable price for a service? We've always rented before so it's the first time we've had to deal with this kind of stuff ourselves and have no clue!

Look in my profile. Email me and I will give you the costings.

Sorry - not sure if it's me being dim but there's nothing under Contact Details and it won't let me PM you?

You write your message in the box, enter the code under the box and post

Or do a search for Rannoch services (bearsden, glasgow)

Would put full address on here but forum rules forbid

These are DP's favourite boilers and he seems to love restoring them to their former glory.

Only problem is that when he is about they never get replaced!

I have that problem with the Biasi 24S. I can always repair them!

I don't know why DP does not put his telephone numbers and email address in his profile as I do. There is no prohibition on that.

Tony
