Voltage question for TV's

We have an old telly in work - it stopped working today and I found there was no power coming out of the transformer. It said 12volts 5 amps output. I tried another transformer marked 12volts 300milliamps. It works the telly fine. Shall I leave it at that or is the transformer likely to overheat?

You need to get another transformer rated for 5 amps.
The 300 milliamp one is less than a tenth of the power, continued use will cause it to overheat and fail.

What, for seven quid? I expect top quality for that sort if money. Top dollar!
