I seem to recall he said in the debate that he wanted to be IN Europe. No wonder he not offering you a referendum then.

....The referendum he said he would give us was on the Lisbon treaty....if we had had one and voted No, we wouldn't be voting no on being in the EU, but on a treaty. He has never said we should get out of the EU.

We have been in the EU (EC etc) for a VERY long time, what the tories wanted was to be IN it, but not ruled BY it.
...but now that we have joined we can't just back out...legally...without sanctions.

Ted Heath took us into Europe, that was a fiddle as well.

The referendum that I am refering to is the one that Brown promised us (if he got in) on wether we were going to accept the Euro as our currency.
