VW Golf 1.4, four years old.

I have to remove the instrument cluster (speedo, tacho and warning lights etc). So far I have pulled off the trim with its gaiter attached immediately above the steering column. This has revealed two screws on the bottom edge of the cluster. On removing these, the cluster is looser but still seems to be held back by something.

I don't want to force it. Anyone know if there is something else to remove.

When I do finally get it out, is there an harness of cables attched to it, limiting how far I can get it out.

I'm not replacing it, just investigating a light that isn't working-long story.

Weeelllll, and at your risk, the early Golfs had plastic lugs on the bezel that slotted into steel clips - I've no idea about the newer ones though.
There will indeed be 2 or 3 multiplugs in the back - no problem unplugging these as they can't go back the wrong way.
Is there enough room to remove the bezel with out taking the steering wheel off?
John :)

yes, I just adjusted the steering wheel so that it is at its lowest, and the horizontal bezel pulls off with a canvas style gaitor behind.
