I think this is worth mentioning, if anyones got a 3 cylinder Polo or seat equivalent 2000-2004yr go and check the oil level and make sure it is topped up to the limit, as a friend of mine has found out to his cost  £2k+ if the oil level drops a bit the hydraulic timeing chain tensioner fails, it stretches the chain and the valve timeing goes out, wrecking the engine.Volkswagon know about this and charge approx £150 for a modified timeing chain adjuster+ fitting. The local  vw dealer in Southampton wanted £2350 to fit a new engine and of course are as helpful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.
So if you own one of these probably best to get rid of it quick, my friend got £300 for his 2002 model and bought a 1 owner same year Honda Civic for £400 less than the cost of a new engine. And now I wouldn't touch a VW with a barge pole!!
