vw t4 gears

hi I have a vw t4 2.4 the gear linkage rubbers were well worn so gear lever was very sloppy I have changed the 3 on the top of gearbox but it don't feel any different It still will not select 5th it just grates like its not in properly...........any ideas why?

As with all cable operated gear changes, the adjustment of the cables is absolutely crucial to allow correct gear engagement and retention once the gear has been selected.
Incorrect adjustment allows chronic wear to the gear selector forks so in this case I'd recommend a visit to a VAG specialist.
