I have a 2 gang dimmer switch controlling a) a ceiling light (which works) and b) 4 wall lights (2 each on opposite walls).
The 2 lights on the wall opposite the switch mysteriously stopped working at the same time. After checking the wiring on the dimmer and the lamps themselves (current getting through), I replaced the dimmer swithch but still no result.
Has anyone got any ideas?

How did you check for current (voltage) getting through? If you used one of THOSE neon screwdrivers, throw it away, and get a multi meter. Pound to a penny you have lost the neutral to the two faulty lights.

What did you replace the dimmer switch with, and did you wire it right? You say four wall lights but mention two not working - so are tow OK and two dead? Sounds like a loose connection in one of the light fittings. Have you had a bulb blow recently? this can break open a weak piece of wire in a connection.

Any time something stops working and a dimmer's involved, replace the dimmer with an ordinary switch to simplify the problem-solving.
