Wall mounted sink on plasterboard wall?

You havn't said whether you will be re-tiling. If you are then just do as suggested and cut the plasterboard out, fix some battening where the basin fixing points will be then cover in ply.

No, I won't be tiling.

There's currently 1930s thin pine vertical planks of paneling covering the walls of the bathroom.

I'd like to keep the original paneling.

So I imagine it's a case of removing the paneling, doing the work as stated earlier in the thread, then re-applying the removed panels.
