Hi all
We have just finished building a single story extension and it has been built against an existing single story in order to become 1 room. The existing single story had a flat roof and today we have removed it in order to join the 2 buildings and place a wall plate on brickwork ready for remainder of pitched roof. Problem we have is that the existing building was built in cavity brickwork and our new building has been built using blockwork. To position the wallplate on existing building is proving a problem as most of the plate would be sitting across the cavity and only an inch of brick. Can we place a deeper plate on the wall? say 9 " and that way it will be covering the cavity completely?
Thanks

raise or lower the new plate position to suit the roof.

batten the new or existing ceiling joists if you want a continuous ceiling.

so long as the business end of the plate is sitting upon 4" wide of masonry then no problem about it being wider.
although i guess it would be difficult to deflect a 9"x 3" timber across a cavity should it not sit completely on solid brickwork.
