Can anybody advise on the position of wall ties in a foundation wall that is 3 courses high and consists of a 100mm concrete block, 50mm cavity and a 140mm concrete block. Its for a foundation for an extension.

Whilst I'm here conflicting reports what mortar mix to use some say 3:1 for foundations and 4:1 for above the ground, others say 4:1 is good for all work!

Thank you

wall ties should be located every 450mm vertically or 750mm apart horizontally, staggering the centres as you build up. you should not need wall ties below the level of the lean mix cavity fill, as the walls cannot be pushed in or out.

unless you are building a block & beam or timber floor?

generally we start the wall ties at dpc. this also holds the first run of cavity batts.
