Hi All

I need some help in repairing my underfloor heating.
Speaking to WarmUp they said they can send out an engineer to run a current through the cable and then use some kind of thermal imaging camera to find out where the break is. However they want to charge £250 for this.

Is it something I could do my self?
Looking on there website it says http://www.warmup.com/wp-content/uploads/How-to-use-a-TDR-meter.pdf

I guess I would need a TDR meter ?
I have tried to email some sparkies from Check a Trade however most don't seem interested in helping.

I am just thinking about cost too maybe it's worth getting the tiles taken up and getting a new cable installed.
The system never worked correctly in the first place as the thermostat kept on resetting every few months (even though I had sent the thermostat back to WarmUp and they tested it and found no faults).

Thanks for any Advice.

Abandon it, You will spend the rest of your life trying to pin point that fault. In the mean time you will be damaging your floor and previously undamaged cable.

TDRs are specialist items which most electricians will not own or use. They are also very expensive.
As locating such a break could easily take many hours, £250 is not unreasonable for a fixed price.
