Some merchants have told me that the warranties/guaranties on built-in appliances, like ovens and cookers hoods are not transferrable to the new owner of the property where you fit them when you sell the property. The reason they give is that the warranty can only be claimed by the person who bought the appliances in the first place.

Is this right/legal? does it apply to other fittings like baths (some baths have warranties of 25 years). Is it particular to some merchants or manufacturers? Is there a way around it?
