washer waste backflow

my mums just moved into a bottom floor flat and the washer is backflowing into the sink. the waste pipe from washer joins the waste pipe from sink via a "T" . But the waste pipe is 24 inches from the floorand only just below the level of the trap in the sink. is there a non return valve i can fit .
