Washing machine drainage pipe

Hope you can help a nervous DIYer! washing machine draining pipe must be blocked somewhere between the standpipe and the drain - it's overflowing everytime machine discharges water. Am I ok to yank at the pipe out the house until it comes off the metal connection thats been put thru the wall? Fear of causing damage holds me back!

thanks for the reply Chris - I decided to feel the fear and do it anyway, took the pipe off last night and it came off far easier than expected.
The pipe was completely plugged with years of lint and tissue build up.
