Just moved into a new house & realised the washing machine was leaking & it appears to have got under the laminate that is in the kitchen as the edging is a little blown.

Without taking up the laminate is there a way to assist the laminate drying out?

Thanks

if its your place i would pull up the laminate to let the floor dry to stop or prevent it rotting
as the laminate will be shot for several inches around the machine and need binning
if its the landlords get him to sort it out

It's my place but I am not going to pull the laminate as the leak was only a small drip that must have started yesterday when I used the washing machine & the vibration affected the connection on the hot pipe at the washing machine end.

It'll dry naturally provided there's no more leakage, but laminate in a kitchen is a terrible combination, most of it isn't any good for damp environments.

I agree it is not a good combo but it does look good & was put down by the previous owner & I don't see the point pulling it up just for a small area that has been damaged; it does really notice.

I'll leave it to sort itself out as you say.

Thanks.

If you ever do want/need to rip it out, but like the wood effect, go for Karndean flooring, much better all round

I had a similar problem and ended up ripping the flooring as seeing the results of the leak drove me mad, maybe give it a few weeks and see how it dries out. Good luck.

I know what you mean; things like that niggle at me too; but it is literally just a tiny blown piece of laminate on two joins and can only been seen if you look directly down on it so hardly seems worth the effort. May as well wait until the floor is older & probably more damaged from other kitchen mishaps.

Thanks.

if its discoloured its unlikley to be yesterdays damage ??
has it raised at all on the joins or edge??

Hi Big All

That is exactly what has happened, there is a very small swollen area on the joins/edges.

afraid its shot and needs replacing

if its glued you cannot repair it
if its click lock type you need to replace the damaged section that can further damage more bit then you need to match the colour and type
