Hi there, I have just completed a major redesign to my ensuite. The issue I have now is I'm getting smells coming from the toilet actually from the bowl. The water trap is full.

The toilet goes directly into the soil pipe and the soil pipe has an AAV fitted. I'm wondering if I should simply extend the soil pipe through the roof and allow it to vent to the outside of the house. Do you think this would reduce the smell. If I do this could some one inform me if the vent must be a specific distance from a velux window?

Many thanks for any advice.
Cheers from a newbe

Yes, I've checked behind the toilet the connections are all sealed correctly and no smells from this area. Once I lift the seat the smell is increased significantly.

Thanks for the rapid reply.

Does your system have on open vent at the back end of it? As far as I recall an AAV can only be used on an intermediate toilet pan. The last WC on the 'run' must have the open vent. The open end of a soil stack needs to poke 1m above opening windows. Don't know if there as special conditions for Veluxes, though.

Thinking outside the bog ( box) it might just be the cistern needs a clean with a drop of bleach , there may be some gunge under the flush rim too  If it`s not that - and is indeed a drain smell then a proper vent to atmosphere instead of aav would surely fix it. Regs used to be one yard above window within 14 feet  . I`m living in the past

The loo / cistern is clear, so I think I'll go for an external vent.

Would anyone know if there is any information outlining the best way to go through a tile roof?

Cheers again for any advice.

remove the tile then replace the tile with a weathering slate.
