A friend-of-a-friend bought a water butt complete with a kit to connect to a rainwater downpipe - but got home to find that her old iron downpipes are not compatible :(

I guess there is no realistic solution but I thought I’d post here just in case anyone has any clever ideas.

Cast iron pipe can be cut and modern plastic pipe fitted with a coupler, the rainwater kit then being attached to the plastic. Best to get in a tradesman if not confident doing it.

Blup

Cast iron is generally spaced closer to the wall - there are "ears" on the pipe socket that have gurt big nails through them into the brickwork. Having said that you can get plastic fake cast iron pipe - might be the answer;)
