Water tank Chugging

I have a 50G tank in the attic and since I put a power shower on there I hear a chugging noise as the tank fills. (even after one of my sons marathon showers the tank is still 4/5 full.
There is a 22mm ball valve which seems to have some bounce as the tanks fills So... maybe this is the culprit. Does a silent ball valve exsist for a large tank? It is top mounted rather than bottom fed.

Get an equilibrium ball valve, that'll cure it if it is an issue with the float bouncing

Thanks Muggles. Would that be better than a "FLUIDMASTER 747UK SIDE ENTRY FLOAT" that I saw on another post (similar problem)

OOI, you say it is a 22mm valve. Does it have the large copper float, or is it a standard-sized plastic float?

Apologies. I think its a standard 1/2"

The Fluidmaster would do, provided that it has UK approval as a type 2 or equivalent for connection to a mains water supply (there are regulations realting to contamination of the supply)

I mostly use the Torbeck, which is very small and quiet, but some people say the Fluidmaster is more reliable.

I looked on the maker's website but it appears to be an American valve and i don't know what UK approvals it has. You could contact the importer in Brsitol (see http://www.fluidmasteruk.com/instructions/2/e/7/b/2e7b461f-e0b2-419a-88fe-e5bcd3b74b97.pdf

The older style of equilibreum valve is brass or gunmetal, and amazingly expensive.

Then I might well go for the fluidmaster as it also claims to cut down on the cistern filling noise. I have temporaraly suspended a little plastic bucket with a hole in from the float to dampen the osscilations. Saw it on a post somewhere. you never know.....

I am fairly sure (although could be wrong) that the torbec valve isint allowed on cold water storage tanks.

you may be right, although it does have the anti-syphon plastic bridge over the top, it also has an anti-splash flat plastic tube on the outlet to prevent the noise of running water.

Wow! Still going to replace the valve on advice of the forum.. However the little bucket worked as a good stabilizer!!!!
