Water Torture

Help: I'm a victim of domestic water torture.

I fitted a new WC and pan about six months ago, and just lately it's developed an internal drip which is audible about every 20 seconds. When it first started I timed it to every 30 seconds, but its getting worse.

At the moment of drip there's no visible disturbance, either of the water in the pan or in the cistern. Maybe the cistern outlet isn't quite sealing properly once flushed?

Putting my ear as close as I dare to the pan itself seems to indicate that the point of water impact is somewhere below the cistern/pan connection and above the pan-to-waste pipe outlet. There's no sign of any external leak, and its a close coupled WC.

Any clues as to how to deal with this exceedingly irritating if minor problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm more or less resigned to taking the thing apart and replacing all the washers, but I'd rather not if its at all avoidable.

Yes, I considered that; but you see, its awkward having to remember to put them in when I go into the bathroom, then take them out again. Not only that but I don't like wasting water.

Any other suggestions which involve actually dealing with the leak itself, gratefully received. :0)

Twas to tempting
As you say cistern outlet sounds to be the location, when flushed water drops into small chamber prior to being channeled around the rim channel of the pan etc etc and away down the pan.

Have you checked
fill level in cistern as overflow can be via this route
Torbeck (or similar) valve is shutting off?
- otherwise -
strip unit down and clean flush release seal or
replace with new mechanism

Yes, I've checked the water level and it's fine. I think that ultimately I'll end up stripping the thing down and if not replacing the entire mechanism, at least cleaning up the seals.
