Waterproofer in Mortar when Pointing ?

Hi

Just had a new wall built a few weeks back using decorative concrete blocks.

Builder made a truely excellent job, the wall looks superb, particularly the pointing between the blocks.

One thing just dawned on me - the builder used a plasticiser in the mortar which he asked me to supply.

Did I make a mistake in that I should have supplied a waterproofer rather than just a plasticiser ?
