Waterproofing a concrete floor

R

Hi. The ground floor is concrete overlain with mastic/asphalt. The mastic is about 25mm thick. Obviously, the mastic is providing a waterproof seal. The concrete below will, one expects, get damp - or is liable to.

I've cut out a 500mm x 500mm area of mastic thus exposing the concrete.

But, I won't be overlaying again with mastic. In fact I wish to overlay the concrete with cement. But cement is not a waterproof material.

I presume I can use some kind of special paint, to paint over cement to effect a waterproof seal.

The area will not be walked over.

Can anyone please recommend a particular product?

Only problem I can see is the expense.
