Waterproofing bathroom wall with cement board

If waterproofing the wall of a bathroom with cement board (e.g. AquaPanel), any sheets of this material will be butted together where they joint.

Should the cement-boarded wall be finished with (for example) Homelux waterproof wall matting (which requires a cement-based adhesive), then Homelux waterproof flexible joint tape applied to the matting joints.

Or perhaps only the joint tape should be applied to the cement board joints (so no Homelux wall matting applied at all).

Is this for a showering area ? If it is hardie backer, then waterproof tile adhesive and grout is good enough.
