Weeping stop tap

I have an old stop tap and it works fine, but it drips a lot when open.

Can this be sorted without changing the stop tap over. It is a new house and i have added a new stop tap after this one thinking it was too stiff, but it all seems fine now we are in, but it is dripping a lot.

To remove it means i will need to work on the old pipe feed into the house which i think is a black pipe (not lead). It looks like the stop tap is soldered to this pipe.

You could try just nipping the gland nut up - or better still, back off the nut, twist a few turns of ptfe tape in (clockwise) and then nipping the nut up.
