Hiya

Mate told me about this site - close to wits end!

The heating is working fine but hot water only seems to work when the heating is on - and even then its on for a bit, then off, then on again, then off. Showering is not as much fun as it used to be :( If the heating is on, and you turn the hot water on, then off - it cuts out the heating. ???

I have this insurance thing - British Gas HomeCare - they replaced the "hydrolic block" last time (about 4 weeks ago) and then said I'd have to buy a new boiler if it broke again but unemployed and totally cannot afford.

Is there anything easy I can do?
Any help appreciated.

E

its supposed to if i remember right there is a delay built in :!:

sounds like carp in the system and prob the hot water heat exchanger

if the hydraulics have been changed then I would agree with kev that it is most likely crud in the system.
the britony combi is fairly reliable apart from the hydraulic actuator did BG change the whole block or just the head (cylindrical part about 3" long by 1 1/2" screws in, usually black in colour with a small plug connected at top)

Are you joking. The Britony Combi has got to be one of the worst boilers ever made. An absolute pile of crap. Thermistor/hydrobloc/diverter/flow switch/gas solenoids are all very common probs with this piece of junk and don't get me started on the Calydra! :x :x :D

reading back the paperwork - its says hydraulic block.

crud in the system then. I'm gutted that BG let me take on this insurance, let me pay for months and now are saying they won't do anymore work unless I buy a new boiler!

thanks for your help tho
