We're so cold...damn rubbish stupid old heating..please help

Hi, yes it is a 3 way honeywell motorised valve and hubby seems to think it's working ok as (now don't chuckle) we've been on telephones to each other, him in the airing cupboard and me at the heating controls and as i'm turning heating and hot water on and off he can feel the resistance on the back of the manual overide switch. Thank you so much for your help..

I would try turning all the rads off. Fire up the heating, bleed the pump by undoing the chrome screw. When water starts to come out tighten the screw up again. Then hopefully the main circuit should all be hot. Turn on a radiator at a time and bleed the air out, once water come out close the bleed valve then move to the next rad, bleed, then once hot move to the next rad and so on. Sound like you've a big air lock somewhere in your system.

Water in the header tank? Does the level drop when you bleed rads with the ballcock up?

So without doing anything last night the rads got hot on their own, today boiler came on as normal (5.30) hot water good,1 rad upstairs hot but downstairs cold.

The rads DONT have air in as when u bleed all u get is water.

The downstairs rads get warm for short periods, only if u keep turning ch controll on/off/on/off.It seems if u keep doing this stop/start of the pump it seems to move a blockage.

Is there a common place to look please ?

Check your small water tank it the loft, check its full of water, itll probably be mucky. If that's full attach a hose to a central heating drain point, drain off some water and see if the tank in the loft refills, if it doesn't you have a blocked cold feed. Easy to unblock, I'll tell you more if it is blocked.

ok, hubby has drained some water from the lowest rad with ballcock tied up, tightened drain plug back up, checked level in header tank, ballcock released and refills so he's assuming cold feed not blocked?

Can you remove pump and check impeller is attached and not blocked?

Thanks for the reply specialk, ill ask him.

Although he says its doing funny things now.
When you turn heating on the only rad we have upstairs is nice & hot the rads downstairs start to get warm at feed pipes untill he hears a gushing noise & hot water goes up vent pipe to exp tank in loft. Then feed pipes downstairs go cold rad upstairs is still good !

Could the rad upstairs be plumbed into the hot water and heating circuit (is it in a bathroom)?

The pump is upstairs in airing cupboard next to cylinder dont no if pump is fitted wrong way.

The bathroom is downstairs in our house so dont think its plumbed into hot water.

If the boiler was all set to work and stopped there is a fault in your system. On a back boiler the only thing you will be able to
check is if the pump is running.
You need someone who knows what they are doing and is going to fix
it. You NEED to pay for this instead of wasting time asking for help
on a website.

Thanks for your negative input. But where have i said the boiler has stopped ?

As for wasting time on this site,my husband has learned quite a bit from the kind people on here trying to help.

Times are hard,we are a young family with 2 children.Dont you think if we could afford a heating engineer to come in & fix this problem we would.
