We want to create wet room for our downstairs cloak room.
We have already semi-prepared the room as you will see in the photos below. The screed has been taken up to reveal the concrete pad. There was a ceramic ‘Inlet Hopper’ like the one below where the waste from the basin and shower went into which has also been carefully removed. You can see from the photos the rubber seal from the pipe in the ground still intact. There is also the toilet outlet connector stuck out in the other photos – it is longer due to the screed being removed.
We have already fitted aqua-panel to the paramount walls where the shower will be and have also had the rest of the room skimmed (along with the rest of the downstairs).
The dimensions of the room are 830mm x 2300mm.
The rest of the downstairs will be tiled and the floor in the wet room will be tiled with the equivalent mosaic tiles – which we have already found. The walls will be tiled floor to ceiling in the room.
We have already investigated the trap for the room and found a vertical design from Impey designed for our drainage system- see image below. We are thinking of connecting a short pipe into the existing rubber seal to fit just under where the tiles will sit and fill in the area around the outside. Just as a note, the wall next to this is our garage – the waste from the basin will go out through the wall and return straight into this short pipe.
With the screed removed the floor can be re-screeded with a slope from walls into the trap ready for the mosaic tiles to be laid. The height from the concrete to the screed above the door threshold is 35mm.
Are there any issues with doing this? If so does anyone have other suggestions or ideas on how to achieve this?
